Common CoreTransparent Statement: The Common Core education standards were never intended to be partisan. The standards initiative was started by the states simply as a way to ensure that all children receive the quality education they need to excel in today's world. The initiative received support from the federal government — beginning with the George W. Bush Administration. Many of those who are against Common Core consider it a federal takeover of education. It is not. It was simply a way to find common ground among 50 states with widely varying standards. There are some who have legitimate concerns that the standards may be too high for all students to achieve. That may be, but lowering standards for our children just means they will be motivated to achieve less. That is a disservice to them -- and our economy. It is our responsibility to provide the funding and support necessary for all children to achieve success. |
